Martial Arts for Kids

 Potomac Kempo - Kids Class

At Potomac Kempo we provide a structured environment to channel youthful energy to a positive purpose. Potomac Kempo’s classes for kids are dedicated to developing discipline and confidence while improving overall fitness, increasing strength, improving coordination, and enhancing both mental and physical balance.

Classes for Younger Kids

Potomac Kempo - Kids ClassThrough consistency and praise, our instructors help children to listen, control their bodies, and focus their minds on a given task. Our classes will develop your child’s physical fitness — his or her ability to run, jump, balance on one foot, move with precision and strength — all the while maintaining a code of utmost respect and honesty. With the integrity and self discipline they develop while studying at Potomac Kempo, your child’s desire to excel in school and at home will blossom.

Classes for Older Kids

Potomac Kempo - Kids ClassKids spend more time hypnotized by electronics and computer screens than ever before. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that we encourage our youth to put physical activity back into their daily lives. At Potomac Kempo, our instructors motivate students with enthusiasm and a tireless demand for each individual’s greatest physical and mental effort. Your child will develop muscular strength, cardiovascular fitness, coordination, and balance through structured exercises that are geared towards developing them into a healthy, well rounded person, while teaching them practical self defense. The development of a healthy body moves in time with improvement of mental acuity, empowering your child to confidently interact and connect with the world around him or her. Ultimately, our goal is to instill a foundation of self-motivation, discipline, and character, upon which your child will build a lifetime of success.

Testimonials

The friendships I have made are a benefit I wasn’t expecting. I really like how much Potomac Kempo is a community. I was looking for a workout and maybe some stress relief. But the friendships are one of the aspects that I truly cherish. The dojo is my sanctuary and being in class with motivated, fun, caring, and honorable people and taught by Sensei’s who are genuinely passionate, dedicated, and caring is the best part about going to class. It keeps me coming back and inspires me to help my fellow students get better and to enjoy being in the dojo as much as I do.

Potomac Kempo - Circle and Line

the Circle and the Line

It is often said — and sometimes even understood — that the Circle Beats the Line and the Line Beats the Circle but it merits discussion what this really means. Linear and Circular Movements If we consider power we know that linear movements radiating from our center are the most powerful category of movements. However, […]

Kempo Essay: Ally

Kempo Quest Well, it’s been quite a year!  I really did not think I would stick with Kempo when I started a year ago, it seemed like such a whim and not something at which I would enjoy or could sustain, but here we are, Sensei Cassie, Sempei Erica, and I celebrating a year together […]
